The portrayal of Dr. Dixon by Mary McDonnell as a surgeon who also deals with Aspergers Syndrome, is ludicrous and irresponsible. I have two family members who deal with this, and the only similarity between my family members and "Dr. Dixon" is their inability to make extended eye contact, and making some poor social choices. Ms McDonnell's portrayal is far more characteristic of someone with autism--and yes there is a huge difference. Do your research! What you have presented is demeaning and slanderous. You should concentrate on the character's difficulties with organizing, and prioritizing. That "group hug" and reference to Temple Grandin was inane. By the time someone identified with Aspergers Syndrome has completed the amount of education needed to become a doctor, that person would certainly have learned some nuances of socially acceptable behavior.
