Is Derek’s anger and maliciousness in this episode a mere result of his own insecurities about his abilities as a doctor? Or is he becoming fed up with his life and we’re going to see some real changes because of it? (I’m not even going to address the rumor that he might be leaving the show, and the possibility that perhaps this is the beginning of his “out.” Simply because I refuse to accept that as an option).
It seems to me that he’s alienating the things and people he cares about the most-Meredith especially- because for once, HE’S the one being questioned. Throughout the past 5 seasons, he’s been the perfect one…the one all the women want, the doctor everyone wants to be, the guy who has to pick up after everyone else’s mess. For once, the tables have turned and his mistakes have been brought out into the open. He’s not as perfect as everyone thought he was and he doesn’t like it. Is it me or is he being a bit of a baby?
But then there’s the possibility that he’s fed up. Maybe he’s having one of those moments where he’s taking a look at his life and not liking what he sees. Maybe he’s tired of performing surgeries when he’s losing more lives than he can save. Maybe he’s tired of feeling like he has to convince Meredith (and himself) that they should be together. (Although, they SHOULD be together, darn it!) Maybe he really is turning into a harder, more unpleasant Derek. Or maybe he was really just drunk.

or maybe he realized he killed a bunch of people and is having a moment? stupid post
I don’t think it’s stupid at all. It’s an interesting thing to think about: what is ahead for Derek and if we’re looking at a real personality change (he was acting a bit out of character in this episode) or if he was, as you say, just having a moment. Especially with the rumor that he might be leaving the show (sorry, author, I know you don’t want to talk about that!) maybe this is the beginning of the end for his character.
